Answer #1

Given that, population size = N = 10 and

Number of success in population = r = 3

Using Excel we find the probabilities for the following cases:

a) n = 4, x = 1

P(X = 1) = HYPGEOMDIST(1,4,3,10) = 0.5

Therefore, required probability is 0.5

b) n = 2, x = 2

P(X = 2) = HYPGEOMDIST(2,2,3,10) = 0.0667

Therefore, required probability is 0.0667

c) n = 2, x = 0

P(X = 0) = HYPGEOMDIST(0,2,3,10) = 0.4667

Therefore, required probability is 0.4667

d) n = 4, x = 2

P(X = 2) = HYPGEOMDIST(2,4,3,10) = 0.3

Therefore, required probability is 0.3

e) n = 4, x = 4

Since, number of success in population is 3 so we can not calculate this probability that number of success is greater than number of success in population.

We can not calculate this probability.
