(i). What is the error between estimated mean and the true mean?

{please give your answer as an absolute value}

(ii). What is the error between estimated variance and the true variance?

{please give your answer as an absolute value}

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution

(1) estimated mean i.e. sample mean = x/n = (105+91+....+57)/11 = 985/11 = 89.55

true mean i.e. population mean = x/n = (105+91+....+57)/11 = 985/11 = 89.55

error = 0

(2) estimated variance i.e. sample variance = (1/n-1)((x- sample mean)2

= 1/10 ((105-89.55)2+...…….+(57-89.55)2) = 339.47

population variance= (1/n)((x- sample mean)2

= 1/11 ((105-89.55)2+...…….+(57-89.55)2) = 308.61

error = 30.86
