Question

What information does the strength of a correlation coefficient convey?

What information does the strength of a correlation coefficient convey?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of linear relationship between two variables. The range of correlation coefficient is between -1 to +1 . If the value of correlation coefficient is negative, it indicates negative relationship , that is with increase in one variable other variable decreases , if the value is positive, it indicates negative relationship, that is with increase in one variable, other variable also increases.

If value is +1 , indicates perfect positive relationship

If value is -1, indicates perfect negative relationship

If value is 0.7 (+/-) indicates strong relationship

If value is 0.5 (+/-) indicates moderate relationship

If value is 0.3 (+/-) indicates weak relationship

If value is 0 , indicates no relationship
