What Elemtary Statistics all about?

Answer #1

Statistics is the study of the numerical features of a subject/population, methods of collecting data, summarizing and presenting data, and drawing inferences from data.

eg.-

1.Polls in elections use stats to guess who will win an election.

2.Sports uses stats to guess how a player will perform.

Elementary Statistics involve many topics to perform the tasks as discussed above, Here are the Details:-

Descriptive statistics:-we manly study about Describing the data, like mean Mean, mode, median and interquartile range, Visualizing the data by various types of graphs and chart like-Box plots, tables and graphs.

Probability and Probability distributions. -. The chance of something happening, study of data and graphs. eg.-winning an election, normal distribution etc.

Planning and analyzing experiments. Where we study whether we are able to decide if results of studies are valid or not.

Regression analysis and correlation coefficients. Here we work with graphs like scatter plots to fit data to equations to find future trends.

Tables:- we use lots of these in elementary statistics, like the z-table and t-table. These Tables tell us a lot about probabilities of data distributions.

We have been talking a lot about specific sample statistics such as (sample) mean or (sample) variance. In principle, any quantity that characterizes (is derived from) a sample is a legitimate sample statistics (and since it depends on the sample, or in other word on a particular realization/sample drawing, this quantity is going to be a random variable itself). A sum of squares of the values in the sample, or a product of their logarithms, or simply the maximum value...
