How is it determined whether blocks used in a randomized block experiment are reasonable?
It is to be noted that CRD can be applied only to homogenous experiments. Also, The principle of ‘Local-control’ is not used in CRD. But if the experimental units are heterogeneous in nature, CRD or complete randomised design cannot be applied. In this case we go with the randomised block design or RBD. We divide the whole experimental area into some homogenous blocks. Then in each block we do random allocation of the units. Also, advantage of local control is present is RBD. So to reduce the within block variation and increase the between block variation blocks are reasonable to be used in RBD.
