speeds of cars driving on the highway ate an example of which type of data

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Problem is that :-

We have to identify the data type for the speeds of car driving on the highway.

Answer:-

We know that we can calculate the Speed by using the formula

Speed = Distance / Time

Where, Unit of Distance is kmeter or meter.

and unit of time is second/minute/hour

But here, if we consider the particular cars' speed which are driving on th highway;There speed will be measured in km/h,rather than m/s or so on.

So,Kilometer travelled can be continuous quantity e.g 1.2km, 4.5km, 6km so for time it really doesn't matter that it will discrete or continuous.

Hence,On concluding speed will a continuous type of data.

i.e The data type for the speeds of car driving on the highway is quantitative "continuous"

Refer to speeds at which cars pass through a checkpoint on the highway. Assume the speeds are normally distributed with a population mean of 61 miles per hour and a population standard deviation of 4 miles per hour. Calculate the probability that the next car passing will be travelling more than 58 miles per hour.

Assume that the speeds at which all men and all women drive cars on this highway are both approximately normally distributed with unknown and unequal population standard deviations. a. Construct a 98% confidence interval for the difference between the mean speeds of cars driven by all men and all women on this highway. b. Suppose that the speeds of cars travelling on California freeways are normally distributed with a mean of 60 miles/hour. The highway patrol's policy is to issue tickets for cars with speeds exceeding 80 miles/hour. The records show that exactly 5% of the speeds exceed this limit. Find the standard deviation of the speeds of cars travelling on California freeways. Carry your intermediate computations to at least four decimal places. Round your answer to at least one decimal place.

The Highway Safety Department wants to study the driving habits of individuals. A sample of 32 cars traveling on the highway revealed an average speed of 60 miles per hour with a standard deviation of 11 miles per hour. What sample size should be chosen if we want a margin of error of less than 2 miles per hour for a 95% confidence interval?
