You are conducting medical research and need to be 95% confident that an interval between 9.55 and 21.3 captures the true mean of the research. You do not, however, know the population standard deviation. Which type of distribution should you use for this problem? Blank 1 Why would you use your distribution choice? Blank 2

Answer #1

Which type of distribution should you use for this problem? Why would you use your distribution choice?

A t-distribution should be use for this confidence interval of the population mean, because we are not given the value for the population standard deviation. If we know the value for population standard deviation σ then we use z-distribution (normal) instead of t-distribution. We use t-distribution when we do not know the population standard deviation and sample size is comparatively small.
