1) A city of 45,346 people is having an outbreak of salmonella. If 296 males have contracted salmonella and 567 females have contracted salmonella in the past month, calculate the following:

  1. With respect to salmonella poisoning, calculate the sex ratio of infection.
  2. Calculate the proportion of male to female salmonella cases.
  3. Calculate the percentage of male and female salmonella cases.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

i) The ratio of males to females in a population is called the sex ratio. So with respect to Samonella poisoning, sex rario of infection is =296/567=0.52 i.e if 52 males are infected then 100 females will be infected.

ii) now the proportion of male salmonella cases =296/45346 =0.0065

And the proportion of female salmonella cases =567/45346=0.0125

iii) percentage of male salmonella cases =(296/45346)*100=0.65%

Percentage of female salmonella cases =(567/45346)*100 =1.25%
