Question

how to set up null hypothesis

how to set up null hypothesis

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When we setup a hypotheses to test the claim we meet to define two hypothesis that are null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.

The calimccan be about mean , standard deviation or any kind of population estimate parameter.

The first hypothesis is called the null hypothesis, symbolised as H0. The null hypothesis always states that the population parameter is equal to the claimed value. Whatever our claim is but the null hypothesis always states that it is equal toh the claim , hence equality notation always come in null hypothesis,

For example if we claim that mean of a population age is grater than 50. Hence the setup of hypothesis will be

Ho: mean=50 ; null hypothesis

Ha : mean> 50; alternate hypothesis

One thing must be kept in mind the claim can either be at null hypothesis or at alternate hypothesis but the sign of equality will always be with null hypothesis.
