Illustrate in two examples the difference between variables and values

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A variable is actually a temporary name or kind of a location to hold a value of something. A variable thus has some kind of a location. A value is fixed but the value of a variable can be changed from one value to another. Two examples to show the same is:

  • Suppose a variable is the cost of making a pen. This variable could vary depending on the material we use. The variable cost could have a value of $1 if cheap material is used or value of $3 is expensive material is used
  • Another example could be the toll for a particular roadway. The toll fair is a variable which can have various values. It could be $10 for a car while $5 for a scooter.
