Foot ulcers are a common problem for people with diabetes. Higher skin temperatures on the foot indicates an increased risk of ulcers. IN a study carried out at the Colorado School of Mines, skin temperatures on both feet were measured , in degrees Fahrenheit, for 18 diabetic patients. The data are presented in the table below:

Left Foot 80 85 75 88 89 87 78 88 89 76 89 87 78 80 87 86 76 88
Right Foot 80 85 80 86 87 82 78 89 90 81 86 82 78 81 82 85 80 89

Calculate the correlation between the temperature measurements on both feet.

If a linear model were fit to these data, treating the right foot temperature measurement as the response variable, what would be the test statistic when testing whether or not the slope of the model is equal to zero?

If a linear regression model were fit, what is the value of the slope and the value of the y-intercept? Treat the right foot temperature measurement as the response variable.

As part of its freshman orientation process, a college gives a math placement exam to incoming freshmen. The math department is interested in whether there is a statistically significant difference in the average exam score for students in different programs, at a level of α=0.01 . The exam scores for random samples of science, engineering, humanities, and business majors are shown in the following table. The math department has confirmed that the samples were randomly selected and independent, that the...
