Provide step by step calculation and interpretation of the values of range and interquartile range for the following subsample of respondents’ age in years:

24, 27, 35, 31, 21, 22, 28, 18, 25, 24, 36, 20.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:- Given that samples 24,27,35,31,21,22,28,18,25,24,36,20.

Range : 18

Explanation

The range is the difference between the highest and lowest values in the data set.

Ordering the data from least to greatest, we get:

18 20 21 22 24 24 25 27 28 31 35 36

The lowest value is 18.

The highest value is 36.

The range = 36 - 18 = 18.

=> interquartile range = 8

Explanation

The interquartile range is the difference between the third and first quartiles.

The third quartile is 29.5.

The first quartile is 21.5.

The interquartile range = 29.5 - 21.5 = 8.
