I am trying to put together a research determining the relationship between age and exercise time and if there is a significant difference in gender and exercise times. How would I find the dependent variable normality using SPSS

Answer #1

In SPSS click on Analysis menu. Then click on Descriptive statistics followed by Explore. After click on Explore, Enter the your dependent variable in Dependent List. Then click on Plot. In plot dialog box right click on Normality Plots with test and continue. Now press the OK.

The SPSS output gives the table for Tests of Normality. This Table contains two normality tests, namely, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test used when sample size of dependent variable is greater than or equal to 2000. However the Shapiro-Wilk test used when sample size of dependent variable lies between 5 to 2000.

I am trying to put together a research determining the relationship between age and exercise time and if there is a significant difference in gender and exercise times. I would like to determine the dependent variable normality using SPSS. Gender is always independent, but when I'm trying to assess the normality for the age and exercise times. Exercise will always be dependent, but will in this case is age also dependent or independent? How would I determine this on SPSS?

In SPSS, I am reviewing the test of normality. I am trying to see what is the relationship between age and exercise time. Ages range from 20 - 24 with 100 participants. I know I need to test for the dependent variability normality first, with the age being independent and the exercise time being dependent. I know that greater than 0.05 is normally distributed and less than 0.05 is not normally distributed. But lets say four of my age groups...

In controlled comparison research, the observed relationship between an independent variable (X) and a dependent variable (Y) may be caused by some other, uncontrolled compositional difference (Z). So, we always ask, “How else, besides the independent variable, are the groups I am comparing not the same?” For the hypothesis below, do the following: (i) Think up a plausible alternative causal variable. (ii) Describe how this variable might affect the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. In a...

Traditionally, experiments related to exercise metabolism used college age males as the research subjects. This trend is less today and females are also used. Some of the early studies showed that estrogen can lower muscle glycogen and blood glucose uptake. Progesterone on the other hand increases muscle glycogen utilization and has no effect upon blood glucose uptake. This could lead one to ask whether gender specific exercise programs and dietary manipulations are necessary. Decide if you are for against the...
