which class had the higher mean SAT score?

Answer #1

In class A, the scores are normally distributed between 1000 and 1600. The graph of normal distribution looks like this.

The mean is the peak in the graph. The graph is symmetrical around mean. So, the mean must be around 1000+1600/2=1300.

The graph for uniform distribution is given below.

Class B had more kids with scores of 1600. Class A had the higher mean SAT score.

Estimating Mean SAT Math Score The SAT is the most widely used college admission exam. (Most community colleges do not require students to take this exam.) The mean SAT math score varies by state and by year, so the value of µ depends on the state and the year.
