Why is a z score a standard score?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

we know that the z score is defined as the difference of the given value and the mean value divided by the standard deviation

so, we can say that the z score is a standard score because it tells us the distance between mean and the given value in terms of the standard deviation

Z score tells us how many standard deviation is a data point located from the mean or center of the data. That's why the z score is known as a standard score. Data value with +1 z score is one standard deviation to the right of mean and data value with -1 z score is one standard deviation to the left of the mean.
