Quarter | ||||
Year | I | II | III | IV |

2009 | 4.8 | 3.8 | 5.6 | 6.8 |

Determine a typical seasonal index for each of the four quarters.( Please do not use excel. Do manual calculations with proper working by using table only)
Find the average each quarter
Q1 = (5.3+4.8+4.3+5.6)/4 = 5
Q2 = (4.1+3.8+3.8+4.6)/4 = 4.075
Q3 = (6.8+5.6+5.7+6.4)/4 = 6.125
Q4 = (6.7+6.8+6+5.9)/4 = 6.35
Find the average of the total
Total = (5 + 4.075 + 6.125 + 6.35)/4 = 5.3875
The seasonality index is obtained by dividing Quarter average with total average
Quarter Index
Q1 = 5/5.3875 = 0.9280
Q2 = 4.075/5.3875 = 0.7563
Q3 = 6.125/5.3875 = 1.1368
Q4 = 6.35/5.3875 = 1.1786
