how can I define a SWOT analysis for a new non profit organization that is working on reducing obesity at Portland, more specifically at Boise elementary school. that organization focuses on wellness and fitness by focusing on the way kids eat at home and at school. what should be the strengths weakness opportunities and thread for that organization. what should I say for the demographics and psychographics of Boise elementary school please.

Non profit organisation want to reduce obesity in children know that Schools should be their main target to reach the maximum no. of children and youth in the nation and a school can provide such an environment that can help in reducing the obesity in children. Because children spend their maximum time in a day in their school.Thats why Non profit organisation are focusing on schools to run the obesity prevention program.In this case A non profit organisation want to reduce the obesity at Boise Eliot Elementary school by focusing on wellness and fitness.we are conducting the swot analysis for obesity reduction program in school.

SWOT Analysis:

Strengths

They are very well aware of the obesity in school.

School provide breakfast and lunch to their 82% of students for free or at low price.Nonprofit organisation can analysis the menu and can suggest what items to be added or subtracted in the menu.As we know Children get 1/3rd of their total daily energy need from the lunch and this school provide lunch in their campus.

School provide opportunities to their students to choose their physical activities and food options in school and this way they can learn about the energy balance.

School environment promote healthy eating habits as they have mentioned in their menu that students has to take milk and fruits in their meal.

Weaknesses:

There is no nursing staff present in school.

Don't pay attention towards the consequences of obesity in students.

Parents shows less involvement in their food habits.

School menu for breakfast and lunch carry many unhealthy food stuff .

Opportunities:

Have opportunity to target large no. of children in school.

Many non profit organisations in the district are implementing and helping school authority to run obesity prevention programs.

Have ability to focus on student nutrition level and physical activities.

Have ability to train its staff and parents of the students towards the obesity: As we know that Parents, teachers and school administrators has great impact in changing the food habits of children.So, school has ability to evaluate its efforts for the student health and wellness.

Have opportunity to add subject related to the health and wellness in school curriculum.  

Threats:

Parents force the school to more focus on test scores of students rather than focusing on their health and wellness.

Lack of Funds to focus on health related issues.

No one is accountable for students' health

There are so many advertisements of unhealthy food stuff draw attention of students.

Target customer of the obesity reduction program- Main target of this program are students of the Boise Eliot Elementary School.But organisation has to focus on training of teaching staff, parents of students and school administration.As we know that Parents, teachers and school administrators has great impact in changing the food habits of children.

Demographic attributes and psychographic attributes:

Total no. of students: 522

Student -teacher ratio: 14: 9

Racial background: Black American students: 59%, White Students:16% and Hispanic students-12%,others-13%.

Out of total 60 elementary schools in district, it has 56th rank in terms of performance.

As we know that School provide breakfast and lunch to their 82% of students for free or at low price. These Children get 1/3rd of their total daily energy need from the lunch and this school provide lunch in their campus but Parents force the school to more focus on test scores of students rather than focusing on their health and wellness.School is also struggling to compete with the other 60 elementary schools in district and to maintain its position as it is at 56th rank that is not at all a good ranking. so, school will pay more attention towards the students' test score rather than putting efforts towards their health and wellness.students are also more attracted towards the unhealthy food because of the advertisements of this unhealthy but tasty food.So, before targeting this school for the obesity reduction program, non profit organisation must consider these demographic and psychographic trends of this school.
