#31. Sociodemographic differences in lung cancer worry. Hahn
(2017) evaluated sociodemographic differences in how people worry
about lung cancer. Some of the differences observed across
demographics of interest were between males and females [t(45) =
0.69, with higher mean worry among men], smokers and nonsmokers
[t(45) = 2.69, with higher mean worry among smokers], and whether
or not a person graduated high school [t(45) = 2.56, with higher
mean worry among those who did not graduate high school]. However,
at least one of these results were not statistically significant.
Use the information provided to state which t test or t tests did
not reach the .05 level of significance in this study.
(a) First, what is the critical value for df = 45, two-tailed test,
with alpha = .05? [Actually, use df = 40, which is the closest df
in the table.]
tcrit = +/- (b) Second, state whether each comparison is
statistically significant.
