Why is it necessary to adhere to the five steps of the hypothesis testing process?
When we are evaluating a hypothesis, we need to account for both the variability in our sample and how large our sample is. Based on this information we would like to do make an assessment of whether any differences we see are meaningful, or they are likely just due to chance. This is formally done through a process called hypothesis testing. 5 steps:
Specify the Null hypothesis.
Specify the Alternative hypothesis.
Set the significance level (alpha).
Calculate the test statistics and corresponding p-value.
Drawing a conclusion.
