Suppose I get a significant ANOVA result on 4 types of oil. (pvalue less than .05) I now need to examine the post-hoc analysis (also called multiple comparison) Using the correction discussed in class what should be the alpha that I use in the following 2 sample t-tests?

Answer #1

We want that the post-hoc test has the level of significance as the ANOVA. Ig there are n groups then number of post hoc-tests will be . Thus if ANOVA had a level of significance then each of the post-hoc tests will have a level of significance . Thus here we're testing the difference between 4 variables there will be 6 pairwise tests. Thus level of significance of each test will be 0.05/6 = 0.00833%
