Answer #1

Both are cases of conditional probability. Conditional probability is defined as the likelihood of an event or outcome occurring, based on the occurrence of a previous event or outcome.

In question 1, We have to find the probability of surviving where the given condition (or the event that has occurred) is that the passenger was a female and in first class whereas in the 2nd question, we have to find the probability of being a female and in first-class where the given condition (or the event that has occurred) is that the passenger survived.

Let's say, event A = the passenger survives

event B = the passenger is a female and in first class

Then, in question 1, we have to find the probability P(A|B) whereas in question 2, we have to find the probability P(B|A).

Please answer a-c Suppose that the probability that a passenger will miss a flight is 0.09850. Airlines do not like flights with empty seats, but it is also not desirable to have overbooked flights because passengers must be "bumped" from the flight. Suppose that an airplane has a seating capacity of 56 passengers. (a) If 5858 tickets are sold, what is the probability that 57 or 58 passengers show up for the flight resulting in an overbooked flight? (b) Suppose...
