2. [10 marks] A company wants the population mean length of their product to be 5 inches. The company knows the population standard deviation of the length of each product is 0.25 inches, and that the lengths are normally distributed. A quality assurance analyst wants to determine if the manufacturing process results in products that are too short. The analyst gets a sample of 10 units of product, and calculates a sample mean length of 4.75 inches.

Conduct a hypothesis test to determine if the products are too short on average. Show all 5 steps of hypothesis testing. Show all of your work. When you calculate the test statistic, show all of the following: the equation you use, how you plug in, and your final rounded answer (remember, z-scores are always rounded to 2 decimal places).

JB Nimble cares about the length of candle sticks. The lengths of his favorite type of candle are supposed to be 15 inches, but he notices that lengths vary from candle to candle. So, he wants to know whether or not the mean length of his favorite type of candle really is 15 inches. So, he carefully measures the lengths of a simple random sample of 20 candles of this type and based on his data, he calculates a mean...

A company wants to estimate the mean length the machine is cutting the plastic within 0.125 inch. Determine the minimum sample size required to construct a 95% confidence interval for the population mean. Assume the population standard deviation is 0.25 inch.?

2. You randomly select and measure the lengths of 34 bolts. The sample mean length is 1.24 inches and the standard deviation is 0.3 inches. Construct a 94% interval of confidence of the mean length of all bolts. Find a point estimate for the mean length of all bolts Verify that the conditions are met to construct an interval of confidence for the mean length of all bolts Calculate the critical Z value to construct a 94% confidence interval (round...

Testing a claim about a population mean: t-Test You work for a steel company that produces "lag bolts". One product is a 10-inch lag bolt. A recent re-design of a machine involved in the production of these bolts has the company wondering whether the production still produces 10-inch lag bolts. You have gathered a random sample of bolts that have been produced with this new production process. Conduct an appropriate test, at a 5% significance level (tα/2=t0.025≈2.1314)(tα/2=t0.025≈2.1314), to determine if...

No customer wants to wait a long time in a checkout line. A retailer established a policy for mean time to check out at 240 seconds. After opening a new location, the retailer asked an analyst to see weather the new store was exceeding this standard (weather customers were waiting too long to check out on average) The analyst took a random sample of 30 customers at the new location and measured the time they had to wait to check...

steel factory produces iron rods that are supposed to be 36 inches long. The machine that makes these rods does not produce each rod exactly 36 inches long. The lengths of these rods vary slightly. It is known that when the machine is working properly, the mean length of the rods is 36 inches. According to design, the standard deviation of the lengths of all rods produced on this machine is always equal to .05 inches. The quality control department...

1.Menstrual cycle length. Menstrual cycle lengths (days) in an SRS of nine women are as follows: {31, 28, 26, 24, 29, 33, 25, 26, 28}. Use this data to test whether mean menstrual cycle length differs significantly from a lunar month using a one sample t-test. (A lunar month is 29.5 days.) Assume that population values vary according to a Normal distribution. Use a two-sided alternative. Show all hypothesis-testing steps.
