What is the difference between a nascent polypeptide and a protein domain.

Nascent polypeptide is the chain of amino acids formed after translation. Protein domain is folded, 3D form of the protein.

The process of folding of polypeptide chain to form protein domains starts during translation itself. When nascent chain is synthesized during translation, chaperons help to form protein domain by folding.

Therefore, the next step will be protein domain already had binded to the signal recognizing protein and it would need to finish translation the whole polypeptide (and folding) and then enter the lumen of ER.
