Active listening refers to the process of dedicating one’s selective attention towards the communication being received from an individual or a group to maximize the comprehension and reduce the disturbances and deviations. students can be found practicing active listening with correlation to the subject of their choice. students can be observed to have more concentration and attention on the topics which they prefer to read and learn in comparison to those which they do not prefer to learn and or are being imposed upon them by the community, their parents or the school. As a teacher one may find it very difficult to explain a particular topic to two students who are not paying attention to the topic with active listening but are only hearing what they are saying which results in either repetition of the topic or improper grasping of the topic.
Active listening is a skill and like any other skill active listening can also be developed with patients and time. An individual can start by focusing their listening abilities towards the topics that interest them the most and slowly switching to the topics which they want to learn about but do not currently have information about.
