Answer #1

Self-disclosure is purposeful disclosure of personal information to another person. It is an important building block for intimacy and cannot be achieved without it. In any meaningful interpersonal relationship, reciprocal and appropriate self-disclosure is expected. There are two dimensional aspects of self-disclosure, namely, breadth and depth. The range of topics discussed by two individuals is the breadth of disclosure and is usually expanded in the beginning of the relationship. On the other hand, the degree to which the information revealed is private or personal is the depth of that disclosure. Depth is more difficult to reach in a relationship, as it includes information that we might hesitate to share with others.
