Does the science of Evolutionary Psychology support or refute the notion of genetic determinism?
A theoretical approach to psychology called evolutionary psychology attempts at explaining the useful mental and psychological traits; such as memory, perception, or language as the functional products of natural selection i.e. adaptations. However genetic determinism promotes the view that the human character and behavior are shaped by the genes that comprise the individual's genotype rather than the culture i.e. the environment. Since evolutionary psychology considers hereditary in the light of environmental and physiological adaptations due to the environment it refutes the concept of genetic determinism.
