What do studies suggest about the relationship between genetics and intelligence?
Many studies have stated that intelligence is a result of both heredity and the environmental factors. Genes have a huge impact but they do not solely determine intelligence. Studies have shown that about 50% of the intelligence is inherited from the parents while the remaining depends on the nurture and the type of environment the child is provided with while growing up. There have been several adoption, DNA and twin studies conducted over the past that have to led to this result. e.g. children who have been adopted and raised by their non-biological parents have the genetic intelligence similar to that of their biological parents. Also several twin studies have shown that separated twins, reared by different parents do have very similar genetic makeup and share a smilier level of intelligence. Researchers are constantly looking for genes contributing to intelligence in order to get more information.
