Question

Explain the Hayflick limit.

Explain the Hayflick limit.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(Answer) The Hayflick limit is best understood when the analog is viewed simply as the shelf-life of a cell. According to the Hayflick limit, a cell will keep on multiplying until it begins to undergo “cellular aging” and finally stops multiplying. This is known as the Hayflick limit as it was discovered by Leonard Hayflick in 1961.

Once the period of multiplication has ended, the Hayflick limit of the cell has been reached and cellular multiplication will no longer continue.
