I.Q. tests were developed to determine which children might benefit from special education. While I.Q. tests have validity in terms of predictions concerning academic achievement, is there more to intelligence than how one does in school? Discuss.

Other than measuring intelligence in school or academic performance, IQ test also serves several other functions. The IQ tests consist of number of tasks measuring various measures of memory including short term memory, spaital knowledge, analytical thinking, etc.

Clinical diagnosis- In today's scenario with the increasing number of mental illnesses it becomes a part of the assessment to test the IQ level of an individual.

2. Vocational purposes- use of IQ test have come in trend in occuptaion sector also. Many organizational psychologists assess the level of IQ of the employees at the time of their recruitment process. Use of IQ test in organizational setting allows one to diagnose presence of learning disability if any.

In sum, IQ test have been used for a wide variety of purposes to measure the effective functioning and adaptability of an individual to his/her current environment.
