Dr. Green is interested in conducting a 2 x 2 x 3 within-group factorial design, with 20 participants in each cell. How many participants does she need overall?

please explain why

Answer #1

A within subject design is where the same set of participants are exposed to esch condition in the experiment.

So in a 2×2×3 factorial design, there are 12 test conditions, had it been between subject design, each of these 12 conditions would require a different set of 20 subjects like around 240 participants.

However for a within subject design, the same 20 participants will be present in all the conditions, so the total number of participants required will be just 20.

Dr. T. Aich-Sea is a psychologist from Bowling Green University interested in studying altered time perception. For one of her experiments, she creates two groups (with different subjects in each group). One group of subjects does not smoke anything; while another group smokes marijuana. She waits 15 minutes and asks subjects to estimate how much time has just past (in mins). The data are shown below:     no drug        marijuana     23            20     15           ...

You decide to do a 2 x 2 between subjects factorial design to examine how feedback on Facebook posts influence well-being. You are studying active (multiple posts a day) Facebook users. There are two independent variables, each with two levels. IV A is Facebook "likes." For two days, participants will receive zero "likes" on all their Facebook posts or between 25-50 "likes" on all posts. IV B is Facebook comments. For two days, participants will receive no comments on all...

Identify the independent variable(s) and levels (this could include PVs). 4. Is this an IV X PV design? If so, identify the participant variable(s). 5. Is this a repeated measures (within subject) design? If so, identify the repeated variable(s). And/Or 6. Identify the dependent variable(s).
