Do you think the concept of the melting pot is basically saying that individuals that come to the United States must assimilate to our culture? Is there an issue with this?

In my view, the concept of melting pot does support the majority culture to a degree. It appears as though the concept relates to the idea that the various individuals who are a part of the nation must integrate and assimilate into what becomes the dominant culture of the nation, or the melting pot. At the same time, culture is a dynamic concept that keeps changing with time. The melting pot would also therefore alter with the addition of varied cultures despite the majority being the dominating one.
