The Woman's Movement of the 70s bred women knowlegable and capable enough to run for office and "beat a man", setting the political climate for more women being represented in politics. During 1984 Geraldine Ferraro came to power and worked to put women in the headlines, increased their credibility, and forced the Republican Party to focus on women voters. This came to be the turning point for women in politics. Finally, in 1992 there were a record number of women vying for office, so statistically more women would be elected.
