According to Erickson, this generativity and ego integrity during late adulthood is a major contributor to the development of an overall evaluation of life purpose, acceptance, and resolution of the past. In this stage, individuals reflect on their lives and the outcome of events, evaluating their meaningfulness. Because of this ability, older individuals are more likely to feel satisfied with their lives as they can detach from life events and perceive their contributions. This might be difficult for younger adults to achieve as they are still in the course of carrying out several roles and responsibilities and therefore do not have the foresight to visualise their future.
