Please state in a few sentences: What is the difference between sound arguments and cogent arguments?
Sound and Cogent arguments have their base on Deductive and Inductive Reasoning respectively.
1) A valid deductive reasoning, could be both sound or unsound. When a deductive reasoning is sound, it means that the argument is a valid one. It has its base on true premises and the conclusion drawn is true and reliable. For example, the boy had fun at the park. Therefore, the boy smiled at the park.
2) A strong inductive reasoning, could be both cogent or uncogent. When an inductive reasoning is cogent, it means that it is a strong argument standing on true premises and true conclusion. For example, the boy had fun at the park. Therefore, it is quite likely that the boy smiled at the park.
