What alternative view of consciousness does Lund offer and how
does he
support it?
Lund suggests that the mind and therefore consciousness can exist independently of the brain. In order to provide support to his point, he makes a comparison between wakefulness and non-lucid dream states. According to Lund, when we awaken to our ordinary, more expansive waking consciousness from a dream, we recall the dream only as a small episode in our vast consciousness. During the process of dreaming however, we are denied access to the remainder of our consciousness. We therefore experience transition between states of consciousness when we dream and this principle can be extended to consciousness during death as well. Perhaps, our current consciousness will be integrated with the greater consciousness after our death as in the case of dreams, we are not aware of it now.
