The mdn = 212.00, mean = 192.00, range = 204.00, and SD = 75.89 for the following space shuttle duration times:
96, 277, 190, 234, 73, 241, 261, 164.
It turn out that there was a mistake in recording the data and 164 should be 252.5. How does this impact the descriptive statistics?

Answer #1

a)The median increases from 212 to 237.5

73,96,190,234,241,252.5,261,277

median will be ( 234+241)÷2

=237.5

b) mean increases from 192 to 203.06

mean is the average of all values, which will be 1624.5 ÷ 8 =203.06

c) range is the difference between highest and lowest data point, since 252.5 will come in between , the range is not effected, it is still

277 - 73 = 204

d) The new Sd comes to be around 77.65, which is slightly more than previous standard deviation of 75.89.

It was calculated by subtracting mean from the data points, squaring the outcomes , finding their average, finding the underoot of value.
