The behavioral changes that occurs in children transitioning
from middle childhood to adolescence are:
Adolescent children demand more
autonomy at this stage of life. They want to take their own
decisions in their life. They want their things to be in their way
and not according to their parents. Thus, they assert for more
autonomy and individuality.
They show a lesser compliance with
their parents in comparison to the middle childhood stage. The
children in adolescence tend to disobey their instructions and
guidance because they want to explore their own way of doing
things.
The growing importance of peer
group. The socialization and to peer group conformity becomes more
evident at this stage of life. Peer becomes an important part of
their life and they follow their peers to keep a sense of
belongingness to their group. Now, they identity themselves more
with their peers than their parents.
They want more respect from their
parents and expect themselves to be treated as adults than
children.
