Why are inhalant related psychiatric disorders heterogenous?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Inhalant related psychiatric disorders are heterogeneous because:

1) The potential of a substance being addictive due to its smell is large and unlimited.

2) Many inhalants are household goods such as glue, shoe polish, cleansers, etc.

3) The inhalants are readily available in shops.

4) They are cheaper than other gateway drugs.

It is because of the above reasons that the variety of inhalants available are many. Each inhalant will have its own unique psychological and physical symptoms thereby making it heterogeneous. Some symptoms include aggressiveness, euphoria, impaired judgements, dizziness, poor coordination, slurred speech, blurred vision, tremor, coma or even death.
