One of the idealistic goals I had as a teenager was devoting myself to the service of humanity when I grew up. I cherished lofty goals of working to eliminate negative emotions all over the world. Perhaps this is what fuelled my decision to study psychology, but as I have grown older, I’ve come to realise how complex and far-fetched my goals were. I have learned these ideals can never truly be achieved, at least not in one lifetime by the contribution of a single person.
