Explain the ways in which undercover investigations and the use of informants pose special problems in controlling organized crime. What other methods would you suggest if you were a federal employee tasked with controlling organized crime?
Informants in any investigation are usually criminals who had changed their ways and are ready to work with the police to provide information from the inside in any investigation. Undercover agents are usually police officers who act in disguise as one of the members of a criminal organization to find their inside information. Both these approaches require elaborate analysis and huge amount of time to carry them out. They could also be potential threats to people who are informants or undercover agents. Sometimes the informants or undercover agents themselves might involve in criminal activities for their own benefit. The organized crime cannot be controlled immediately and a lot of time is required to control it as it is an elaborate process in this case. I would suggest direct arrest of those who are proven to be organized criminals.
