In view of the benefits and risks of hormone therapy, what factors would you consider, or advise others to consider, before taking such medication?

Hormone therapy may cause many side effects and health risks. But, despite this fact, it is an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. Some of the advise which can be given to people before taking such medications are as follows:

• It can increase the risk of many serious medical conditions such as heart disease and stroke.
• In long term, hormone therapy can increase the chances for breast cancer
• Women who have had breast cancer, stoke or blood clots should avoid hormone therapy.
• Women who have had menopause after the age of 45 need not go for hormone therapy.
• The least amount of effective dose should be taken, except for those women who are below 45 years old.
