1) Do you agree with Piaget's model of active cognitive processing/schemas, and to what extent is it relevant, within infant cognitive development?
2) How accurately do you believe Piaget's stages (sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, formal operations) represent childhood cognitive development?
3) Which of Erikson's psychosocial stages most resonates for you and how does it apply within your own development?
I agree with Piaget’s active cognitive processing model. Piaget attempted to describe and explain how a child constructs a mental model of the world and viewed cognitive development as a dynamic process, resulting from biological maturation and interaction with the environment. This framework enabled him to account for a child’s developing cognitive capacities as it grows older. An important implication of his model was also that it dispelled previous theories that viewed children’s as less competent being than adults in terms of intelligence. Piaget’s work showed that a child’s cognitive processes differ significantly from that of adults.
