The personality assessment practices that stands out for the five factor model are that, this model assess the domains of personality in a continuum, the personality traits may vary in degree between the two extremes. Thus, this personality assessment describes personality traits with reference to the degree of closeness to the two extremes. It also explains the influence of heredity, environment, nurture and traumatic experience on an individual's life. The five factors of this model that are assessed are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extrovert, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (OCEAN).

The Five Factor Model assess the personality under broader five domains of personality the OCEAN. These domais of traits are found in individuals across the culture,hence, it could be used across culture for personality assessment. This is major difference between the five factor model and other personality assessments. The other difference is that the five domains of personality are well explained for the influence of genetic and environmental factors in the five factor model than the other personality assessments, thus, it gives an in-depth analysis of personality of any individual.
