Paraphilias cam be defined as abnormal or deviant sexual desires which often includes extreme or dangerous sexual behaviour.

Yea certain paraphilias such as pedophilia seems to be pathological in nature.It is often noted that most of the padeophiles have had been sexually molested or abused as kids and generally show attraction towards kids of the age group when they were sexually abused. This shows that theres a probability that the individual is stuck in that phase of development somehow andathese mechanisms are thus coming into play
