How has media shaped the way women view themselves

Answer #1

Body image can be defined as an individual's perception, values, beliefs and attitude towards their body.

Body image is significantly related to one's self esteem or how one feels about their body. The better and positive one feels about their body, the better will be the self esteem. Self esteem on the other hand affects one's confidence and how well one presents themselves in social interactions, job interview and also their health. Thus a healthy body image in turn leads to a better health, job and social interactions.

Media has created an ideal body type which is far from how a woman's body can naturally be without any surgeries. Thus women often suffer from a poor body image trying to acheive that ideal body type.
