Briefly describe the historical, economic, political, and sociological times of Freud. If Freud were beginning his career now, how would his theory and therapy be different

Sigmund Freud was the founder of psychoanalysis which was used to treat psychopathology. Freud had developed the therapeutic techniques where he developed techniques of free association and included se-xuality in identifying its infantile forms. This led to development of Oedipus complex.

The time when Freud formulated psychoanalysis, was in the 19th century. That was a time when there occurred two revolutions, mass democracy, large scale industrialism, communication developments. There was mass warfare, with numerous people dying as a result of mass warfare. He had been influenced by the climate of evolution at that time. He had also been influenced by Haeckel. Also, he believed that the mind of humans would be working in the same man irrespective of his nation or tribe.

This idea has been contradicted today, where cultural competence and the influence of culture on the thought process of a person has widely been acknowledged. Currently, psychoanalysis integrates the importance of culture in shaping the thought process of a person. He was also influenced by thinkers such as David Hume, whose ideas are less profound today.
