Why might striving for occupational success be less appealing in middle age than before? What cognitive and personality changes might contribute to this phenomenon? IN 300-350 WORDS

Answer #1
  • This is because in middle age people replace the need to have money and the need to have a good job with self.People in middle age become more focused on leisure activities and spending time with self than running after making money. They earned all their life and achieved financial stability and during this stage they look for new opportunities and therefore want to learn activities which they didnt get time for when they were young.People who enter this stage with success and achievements are become more calm and less neurotic and therefore are less likely to run after achieving occupational success and money. The calm motivates them to spend time with themselves and This “positivity effect” is seen even more strongly in people who are doing exceptionally well cognitively, but some think their cognitive skills start declining in middle age which makes them less likely to work.the people they love. For example, memory and attention frequently suffer in middle age, but some individuals’ abilities actually improve in midlife.
  • Instead of a crisis, middle age should be thought of as a time for a new form of self-investment.This time of life brings so many new opportunities to invest in ones own cognitive and physical resources, so one can buffer against the effects of older age.
