RE: Sect. 1 Week 15 DQ 13: A bare minimum of care

In the additional readings there is a statement, "To assess these conflicts between professionalism and justice, I need to clarify the nature and scope of professional obligations,..... Where do professional obligations come from? How do professionals acquire them? How stringent are their demands?........special interest influence the answers and therefore does not fulfill justice."

I think that in order to better answer the question of what is best to decide what the minimum level of care should be, a better system needs to be in place to answer the above questions. The health care system has reached the level of crisis in our nation, and we have addressed the issue in government at the level of things like obamacare. Not to put down obamacare, but the system utilized to form this solution was decided by politicians. This is a good example of a special interest influencing the answer and therefore justice is not fulfilled. I think that to even begin to answer the question about what the minimum requirements need to be, that the correct people and people groups all need to be involved equally to best answer that question. Health care professionals that understand intimately the inner working of treating patients, as well as politicians that represent people in the government realm, need to work together to answer these questions, not just one group.

I agree to the view that major healthcare policies lies and frameworks should be guided by a team of experienced healthcare professionals along with politicians. Politicians, although may intend well for citizens, are also individuals who aim to maintain their power and position. We could therefore expect them to make several decisions that fulfill their personal goals as well. As pointed out above, the presence of an independently-functioning body of healthcare would increase the likelihood that policies and frameworks with respect to healthcare actually benefit the citizens.
