Social psychologists believe that an individual's behaviour is a result of interaction with his immediate environment. However, Roger's self theory emphasizes on how every individual is responsible for their actions. Roger's theory propagates that every individual aims to reach their highest potential. A person can reach their highest potential only when their ideal self is in congruence with their real self. Social psychologists can take away the fact that ideal self and real self must be congruent, which determines an individual's behaviour in the society. Ideal self refers to what a person wishes to be and real self is what a person is really.
