Are there universal moral principles that are right for all persons at all times? Or are all moral principles relative to the time and place in which one lives? Explain in three paragraphs.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

There are universal moral principles that are right for all persons at all times because if we consider principles as relative then there the very existence of principles will be put at stake. There should be sharp boundaries between what is morally right or morally wrong to establish the very existence of morality.

For controlling the vices of society we need sharp distinctions between what is morally right or wrong and people need to control their vices in all ages and all times to evolve because there are temptations and worldly attractions in all times and all ages.

Men have the same basic attractions of material allurements, property, and women in all times and ages. Hence we need the same basic principles of morality to bridle our inclinations towards these materialistic inclinations.
